Here at the McDonough School of
Business at Georgetown University, we whet our students' appetites for
Operations Management by beginning our core courses with the
Benihana case study (HBS 9-673-057). Although originally written in
1972, Benihana remains one of the most popular Harvard Business
School cases. The case captivates students because it brings operations to
life in a familiar setting; that of a teppanyaki-style
restaurant.
Why was Benihana's
founder, Rocky Aoki, so successful, so quickly? This web site will help
you unlock the secrets of Rocky's success. In particular, we offer, for
your free download, a simulation of a typical Benihana restaurant. We
invite you to use this simulation, along with data given in the case, to
dissect Rocky's operation and thereby digest key operational
insights.
This case note has
been developed by Professor Ricardo Ernst and Professor Glen Schmidt of
the McDonough School of Business, Georgetown University. Please send them
your suggestions, comments or questions.
Proceed to the
"Simulation" link. If you are an
instructor, we suggest you also visit the "Faculty
Site."
