The original High School Musical was a Disney made for TV movie. The story is set in New Mexico, but the original and all subsequent films were shot at East High in Salt Lake City. The film was a huge hit, and after High School Musical 2 also made a big splash, Disney committed to shooting a movie for theatrical release. It is a small budget movie, but still a very big production.

Vili and Alexander served as extras in the movie, and Alexander stumbled into a small part as a drummer in the pep band. We got some pictures at the School of Vili to help him remember his day as a movie extra. (Hint: long, boring, no pay, and no glamour when it is all said and done.) The sign is a facade, complete with New Mexico emblems. The actual sign on the building says "Salt Lake City East High." Apparel is available on the School website.
