The Utah Best of State Awards recognize the individuals, organizations, and companies that are best in class in Utah. There are many subcategories that are grouped into ten categories. The most visible subcategories are restaurants and business services that advertise their awards, but there are subcategories for social service organizations, healthcare organizations (the University of Utah Health System was a subcategory winner), and for various athletic accomplishments (Alex Smith was the category winner in Sports). I was very surprised when I was told I was being recognized with a Best of State medal in the Education Administration subcategory because I had no idea there were Best of State Awards in education. The subcategory winners all receive bronze Best of State medallions, which is a nice recognition and I was pleased to be a subcategory winner. I was totally surprised when I was recognized with the Best of State Statue (BOSS) Award in the Education category at the Awards Banquet.
The people who really deserve this recognition are the faculty and staff of the David Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah. I have had the extraordinary opportunity to work with this amazing group of people for six years, and they are the individuals who made the dream of what was possible a reality. I am pleased to receive the recognition, but it is really recognition of the faculty and staff and what we accomplished together. It is my hope that the publicity that is generated around this award acknowledges the entire team responsible for the achievements the award recognizes.
